Under the direction of a nursing educator, you will be required to spend time learning about how to become a Certified Nursing Aide in Louisiana. Part of your learning time will be spent in specific CNA classes in Louisiana and part will be spent doing your practical training, which involves you physically learning skills and techniques.
The subjects that you will be learning about in your CNA classes and training range from basic nursing skills including bedside manner, how to recognize and deal with different personality types as well as things like infection control and hand washing. It sounds simple, but it is more involved than you think.

Salary Range For A Certified Nursing Assistant in Louisiana
If you are curious about what the salary range for a CNA is, then you should know that it does depend on where you decide to work. Working for a home healthcare agency can start you off at $25,000 per year according to glassdoor.com, but you are also compensated for mileage and travel time. If you decide to work in a nursing home or long-term care facility, the starting salary will most likely be closer to $29,000.

Completing The Louisiana CNA Examination
You will need to speak directly to the facility that is conducting your CNA training in order to determine when and where you will be required to write your final exam. You will need to provide a clear TB test and criminal background check as well as a photo ID and your social security number before you will become eligible to write the exam. There is a fee to take the state CNA exam.
The exam is made up of multiple-choice questions but it is also partially a skills check. There are 25 skills that CNA’s are expected to learn in your classes and training and you will be randomly tested on 5 of them. You must pass both the written test and the skills test before you will become a certified nursing assistant in Louisiana.
Getting Certified As A CNA in Louisiana
You can verify that you have been registered through the Louisiana Board of Examiners of Nursing Facility Administrators by clicking here. You will need to enter your first, last and middle name (if applicable) as well as your date of birth and social security number.
Your registration expires precisely two years from the date of your original certification, so you will need to be sure that you re-certify prior to the expiration. You can also optionally purchase a Certified Nurse Aide ID card, which indicates who you are and that you are certified to work as a CNA in Louisiana. There is a cost of $12.00 for this card and the application form can be found here. There is no fee for having your name on the registry itself, or for renewing your certification.
