 CNA Training Programs in Arkansas

There are CNA programs scheduled throughout Arkansas and in some cases, you can take these classes for free. Through the state, ADH In-Home Health and Hospice offers free CNA classes to help you get trained and certified as a CNA. The class runs for one week, Monday to Friday and consists of 40 hours of instruction.

The schedule for these CNA programs is available on the website for the Arkansas Department of Health, and you can check out times for classes as well as get in touch with the facility contacts by clicking here.

Aside from CNA training programs that are provided by the DOH, the state of Arkansas does not provide a listing of state-approved programs to the general public. If you would like to have a detailed listing of the facilities that provide this CNA training, contact The Office Of Long Term Care at 501.682.8487 and ask that they mail you a copy.

What Is Involved In Arkansas CNA Programs?

Arkansas CNA programs consists of 90 hours (depending on the provider) and the facility that provides the training must be state-approved. Subjects covered include basic CNA training, infection control, the rights of the resident, performing lifts and transfers, back care, palliative care, bathing, personal care, taking vital signs and how to chart. After the traditional CNA classes in Arkansas, there will be a clinical training requirement as well, so that you can test your skills.

The best part about these CNA training programs is that you can start work from the day that you complete your course. When you graduate, you can then take the final exam so that you may practice in a hospital, long-term care facility, home healthcare setting or for private clients.

Sponsorship Programs

Due to the high demand for CNA training in Arkansas, there are many nursing homes that will pay the tuition for a student who agrees to work with them for a period of time upon completion of the program. The regular cost of these programs will run you about $500 if you are paying out of pocket. For additional information about sponsorship, contact one of the many area locations that provide CNA classes and training.

I’ve Graduated! Where Do I Write The Arkansas CNA Exam?

First, you will need to take a practice exam, and while there are a great deal of practice tests available online, we highly recommend the one offered by Prometric. The test contains 50 questions and provides references and feedback as well as source material.

Prometric is also responsible for administering the final examination, and you can sign up to apply for the exam by clicking here. If you do not already have a login and password with the website, you will need to click on the “Register New User” link. From there you will need to provide your first and last name, email address and password.

The knowledge test consists of 50 questions, the same as the practical test and can be conducted either in oral or a written format. Skills that are tested include hand washing, range of motion, feeding, sponge bathing, taking vital signs, dressing patients and indirect care as well as standard precautions for dealing with patients who have a communicable disease.

I’ve Passed The Exam, How Do I Become Certified as a CNA in Arkansas?

Once you have passed the exam, you  become a certified nursing assistant and are ready to begin your career! The Arkansas State Board of Nursing is not responsible for the regulation of Certified Nursing Aides. This is the responsibility of the Arkansas of Long Term Care. Prometric also maintains the registry, and you can find a registered CNA by clicking here.
